How to make hummus: I had not made hummus for many years and I had forgotten how much better it is compared with the hummus you buy at the supermarket. It’s very easily done in a few minutes.

This is our recipe for how to make hummus, but we like to add different flavors to it from time to time. This recipe has turned out to be very popular.

NOTE: Not all the chickpeas are the same and some cheaper brands of canned chickpeas can be very dry. Using the juice from the jar can depend on which brand you have. It is recommended to blend the chickpeas without the juice and then add it as necessary to achieve your desired consistency.

How to make hummus: Ingredients for 10 – 11 ounces (300 grams)

  • 1 x15.5 ounce can of chickpeas
  • 60 ml of fresh lemon juice
  • Zest of 1 medium lemon, finely grated
  • 60 ml tahini (sesame paste)
  • 2 medium cloves garlic
  • 0.5-1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, plus a little ‘for garnish
  • 2-4 tablespoons of olive oil

  1. In a food processor add the chickpeas (without the juice), lemon juice, tahini, garlic, salt, cumin and paprika.
  2. Pulse the processor to make a puree of chickpeas or add more lemon juice if necessary.
  3. Stir in the lemon zest by hand.
  4. Place the hummus in an airtight container and cover with olive oil.
  5. serve chilled sprinkled with a little paprika and drizzle of olive oil.
  6. Serve as a dip with freshly cut vegetables, chips or pita bread.
